Ask Clint Patty, J.D., what he gained most from his participation in Leadership 2020, and he will answer “appreciation.”
Clint, our Managing Partner at Clayton Wealth Partners, took part in the 2020 class of Leadership Kansas, a statewide program that began in April and concluded with graduation in October.
An affiliate of the Kansas Chamber, the program’s emphasis is leadership skills and development. Each year, 40 people are selected among hundreds of nominations, and the resulting class engages with experts and community leaders in a series of three-day training sessions.
Sessions include “business, education, agriculture, public policy, societal health, economic development, and government,” according to the press release announcing the Class of 2020.
Clint said the training helped hone his leadership skills across the board—personally, professionally, and in the community. Most of all, Leadership Kansas furthered his appreciation for the rising leaders and inspiring communities throughout the state.
“Every place we visited, from Garden City to Kansas City, and several points in between, there are smart, hardworking people using their talents to make their communities thrive. Technology is making the world smaller and enabling communities throughout our state to compete on the national stage. It’s inspiring to see so many throughout the state embracing the state motto—to the stars through difficulties.”
Clint said that the program broadened his experience of connection as well.
“We were a unique group, going through this experience in the midst of a pandemic. In many ways, I think it made our class closer, and I look forward to working with an amazing group of leaders for years to come.”
He added: “I can’t think of anyone in my class who didn’t benefit from Leadership Kansas. It truly is a perspective-changing program.”
