Two of our associate wealth members—Eric Purcell and Erica Waggoner—joined other community members at a recent cleanup of the Topeka weir, or dam along the Kansas River.
In fact, Eric helped spearhead the effort as co-chair of the Riverfront Action Team.
“The Riverfront Action Team is committed to keeping the Kaw River clean so we can protect and restore it for ourselves and future generations. Participating in a river cleanup is one way that citizens can do their part for the river we all love,” Eric said.
Eric, Erica, and dozens of other volunteers joined together on April 28 to clean trash, tires, mattresses, and other rubbish around the Topeka Weir, otherwise known as the Coffer Dam. The Riverfront Action Team enlisted volunteers in advance of the cleanup through outreach efforts that included televised appearances on KSNT and WIBW News by Eric and fellow team member Katy Nelson.
Eric and Katy discussed the cleanup along with some family-fun activities that the Riverfront Action Team is planning. The segment can be viewed online by clicking here.
The cleanup was part of the American Rivers’ National River Cleanup, a series of nationwide community-based river and stream cleanups.
